This thesis was conducted to investigate what students with English kindergarten
background perceive on the use of English in bilingual school and what students with Indonesian-kindergarten background perceive on the use of English in bilingual school. Furthermore, it was also to discover what students with bilingual-kindergarten background perceive on the use of English in bilingual school.
The study used qualitative approach with a case study design. The study
was conducted due to the researcher experience that found problems related to the
use of English in teaching and learning activity especially for Math and Science
subjects. English could not be applied in class teaching and learning activity due
to some reasons. Thus this research concerned on students’ perception on the use
of English correlated with students’ language background or kindergarten school.
The study was expected to answer what the English-kindergarten, Indonesian kindergarten, and bilingual kindergarten schools affected the students’ perception
on the use of English in bilingual school. This research concerned with the students’ perception so that the participants of this research were students of Nizamia Andalusia Primary School. The school had 294 students of all grades. The participants involved in this research were 27 students. They were 21 students of grade 1, 3 students of grade 2 and 3 students of grade 3. The participants had been chosen selectively based on their kindergarten school language background. In short, this research used purposive tools.
