The anxiety or low confidence are always in a part of students learning process contributing to the process of learning a foreign language that frequently prevents the students to speak in front of the class, with other people and native speakers. Speaking in front of people is one of more common phobias that students encounter and feeling of shyness which makes their mind go blank and forgets what to say. They are sometimes afraid of looking foolish when speaking to other people. This problem of course, is one of psychological problem that makes speaking as the productive active skill more difficult for our students. This thesis aimed to reveal the cooperative learning strategies and personality traits in influencing the students’ speaking confidence at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Tarbiyah (STIT) Misbahul Ulum Gumawang OKU Timur. The method used was quantitative research approach which got the data by giving questionnaires both for speaking confidence and personality traits. From the research, it was found that there were students’ improvements in their speaking confidence though the improvements of their confidence were not significant. Students with jigsaw technique did better in speaking confidence while the traits tend to give low contribution to the improvement of students’ speaking confidence.
