The objective of this research is find out (1) How the plan of using semantic mapping enrich vocabulary in the students’ writing; (2) How the implementation of teaching English using semantic mapping improve students’ writing; and (3) How the teacher evaluate students’ writing using semantic mapping. This research was conducted at SMPN 3 Pasarkemis Tangerang from June 2013 to February 2014. By using semantic strategy, 6 students from the 8th grade and an English teacher as participants in academic year 2013/2014 were chosen. The method of the research was case study. There are triangulation instruments in the research; classroom observation, interview, questionnaire, document, vocabulary test, and descriptive writing test. The students’ score of these tests were analyzed by qualitative.
Based on the results of data analysis, three conclusions were drawn: first,
the plans of teaching English using semantic mapping in the students’ writing are
constructive. It showed that the preparation of research involves each other.
Second, the implementation of teaching English using semantic mapping
developes students’ writing ability. It can be seen in the progress of the students’
result in writing. Third, the teacher evaluates the students’ writing by rubric.
