This research dealt with affective strategies to overcome and to analyze students’
anxiety in speaking English in extracurricular class at Dharma Karya Universitas
Terbuka Pondok Cabe. The subject of this research was students in elementary
school level. Anxiety became important to be investigated because this condition
might block the ability of students’ speaking. There were three instruments in the
collecting data, which were interviews, class observation, and questionnaires. The
finding of the study was that affective strategies could reduce students’ anxiety in
speaking English in extracurricular class. It could be concluded that affective
strategies focused to create and manage a good atmosphere to reduce students’
anxiety in speaking English at English extracurricular class.
