The objective of this research is to investigate and to analysize: (1) whether there is any significant effect of songs on the students’ vocabulary mastery; (2) whether there is any significant effect of puzzles on the students’ vocabulary mastery.; (3) which technique is better to improve students’ vocabulary mastery.
The research was conducted at SMP Amanah Tangerang from September to November 2013. By using cluster random sampling, 2 classes with the same abilities were chosen. The method of the research was comparative research. Three research stages that had been done to organize the data are (1) giving the pre test before the research with the analysis; (2) the treatment of Songs and Puzzles technique toward VII A and VII B class; (3) the analysis of post test and comparison of two technique results. The instrument used in this research was Multiple-choice test. The data was analyzed by using Independent T-Test.
Based on data analysis, there are three conclusions: First, there is significant effect of songs on the students’ vocabulary mastery based on the student’s scores using Songs technique toward students’ vocabulary mastery, the tobserved 4.202 and ttable 2.07. The mastery of the students increase with Mean Pre test 53.960 and Mean Post test 64.840. Second, there is no significant effect of puzzles on the students’ vocabulary mastery based on the students’ scores using Puzzles technique, the tobserved 0.452 and ttable 2.07 and Mean Pre test 64.840 and Mean Post test 66.160. Third, songs is not better than puzzles to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery. It is shown with the tobserved 0.294 and ttable 2.01. Mean score of songs 5.9400 while Mean score of puzzles is 5.9900. Therefore, the teaching vocabulary using songs is not better than teaching vocabulary using puzzles. Pengaruh dalam
