This thesis aims to find out an English teaching method which can be used
to reduce code switching and code mixing done by the students on learning
English in the classrooms, to describe the students’ reasons to switch and mix the
languages in learning English, to demonstrate how the teaching method can be
applied in reducing the frequency of switching and mixing the languages is.
The Methods used is qualitative approach which obtained the data
scientifically by collecting data through observation, audio-video recordings,
structured interview, and questionnaire. The observation was done towards the
Englsih teaching learning process done by the teacher and students in the
classroom of Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Negeri 1 Cibinong Bogor. To help the
researcher in analyzing the data of observation, all English teaching learning
processes were recorded using a camera to get complete audio-video recordings
data and observational protocol. The interview was done for the students of
Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Negeri 1 Cibinong Bogor to measure their speaking
ability. The questionnaire were spread out to the students and English teachers of
Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Negeri 1 Cibinong Bogor to find out the use of
Indonesian language, English, and vernacular – mother tongue – language used by
teachers and students in their social interactions inside and outside the classrooms.
