This study aims at finding: (1) the correlation between communication strategies
and speaking skill (2) the correlation between motivation and students‟ speaking
skill; (3) the correlation between communication strategies, motivation, and
speaking skill altogether. (4) the extent of the correlation. The study is a survey
and takes the sample of 30 students from 67 students totally by using purposive
sampling technique. The data-collecting methods include questionnaire and
speaking test; and the collected data were analyzed statistically by using
correlation and regression techniques. The result of the study was as follows: (1)
there was a significant positive correlation between communication strategies (r1)
0,37 and speaking skill (2) there was a significance correlation between
motivation (r2) 0,43 and students‟ speaking skill; (3) and the correlation between
communication strategies, motivation, and speaking skill altogether (R) as 0,48.
And the contribution of communication strategies toward speaking skill was 13,
69%, followed by contribution of motivation toward speaking skill was 18, 49%,
and the contribution both of independent variable toward defendant variable was
23,04%. It implies that communication strategies and motivation predicted to the
