The problem of the research is how to increase the students’ speaking ability in Senior High School, especially in 55 Senior High School. Its purpose is to investigate whether the implementation of collaborative learning strategy can be used to increases the students’ speaking skill. The site of the research was SMAN 55 Jakarta, Jln. Minyak Raya Durentiga, South of Jakarta. The subjects were the researchers’ students of classes X-b and X-c. The learning activities were based on the collaborative learning strategies. The data were collected using three techniques: observation, interview, and speaking performance test. The results showed that the speaking skill of the participants who were taught using collaborative learning strategies improved. Besides the students’ motivation after being taught using collaborative techniques also increased. Based on the findings of this research, English teachers are suggested to integrate collaborative learning techniques into their teaching at Senior High School. Pedagogical implications of this research findings are that the importance of improving students’ speaking ability using attractive and challenging techniques is very paramount. Finally the suggestions are also given for future researchers to replicate similar studies to improve students’ other skills.
