This study is attempted to implement Group work in a conversation class for college learners at LP3I. Lacking of English speaking experience made the students unable to speak English. the researcher did the research at LP3I Jakarta, Petukangan. The place was chosen because the researcher wanted to find the effectiveness and its process of group work in students speaking ability. The research was qualitative research. The research focused on the implementation of group work in various group work activities and the learning process in the classroom. The instrument that was used was interview, observation and documents. The observation were done in conversation class with twenty three students participated in the learning process. Video record was used in the process of observation. The interview was done by the researcher to one of English instructor in another class and some of students of conservation class. The implementation of group work was done directly in the teaching and learning process for seven meetings. Different kinds of group work activities and assignments were also implemented in the learning process. The aim was to find out the progress of students' speaking ability in the processing of doing group work. It was also to find out the advantage and disadvantage doing group work for students' speaking ability. The materials were taken from the students' book from LP3I institutions which was part of the curriculum
