This research is conducted to exhibiti the concept of the semantic mapping strategy in reading activity as well as its application in reading strategy at SMP YASPORBI Jakarta. The research took place at SMP YASPORBI and lasted for one month in January 2011. The research was designed as research method to achieve the objectives. Qualitative calculation was used for the data analysis while some quantitative calculation was intended to support data collected from previous calculation. Observation and reading test were used for the data collection which include 22 research samples. Result of the research shows that semantic mapping strategy is proven to henefit students in understanding things constructing meaning, concepts written message, which all the benefits are affected by reading environment. In other words, the application of semantic reading strategy is always seen from three concerns such as the existence of learning media used for mapping meaning, students’ activeness during the reading and social environment which affects the learning. Furthermore, the internalization of semantic mapping concept that suggest the use of colorful images, web, figure and charts in meting five to eight was the other factor after state of readiness and related background knowledge to succeed students’ reading comprehension. The state of readiness thus built students’ learning motivation while the related background knowledge which was fostered to insight the recognition and syntactic parsing.
