The objective of this research is to investigate the relationship between vocabulary knowledge and learning motivation toward the students' reading comprehension. This research was conducted at Tadika Puri Elementary School East Jakarta from July 15th-September 15th 2009. By using purposive sampling technique, 60 out of 220 students of grade II in school year 2008-2009 were chosen. The method used was a survey with a correlational technique. The instruments include one questionnaire and two tests distributed to analyze the data quantitatively. Questionnaire is used to assesses the vocabulary knowledge, while reading comprehension test is used to assesses the reading comprehension. Further, there are three kinds of data that had been collected, i.e. the score of vocabulary knowledge, the level of motivation and the score of reading comprehension.
