The purpose of this thesis is compare the result of the learning process of the second grade students taught by using Task-Based Instruction and those who were taught by using grammar translation method at integrated Junior High School Al-Qudwah Kalanganyar. Two classes of the second grade out of twelve classes are chosen randomly and assigned as the experimental class and the control class. The samples are 23 students for the experimental class and 23 students in the control class. This study applied quantitative method with written and oral instruments. It is assumed that Task-Based Instruction is more effective than grammar translation method in teaching English texts to improve students' productive language skills. Written and oral pre-test are administered to both classes before they received treatment by using Task-Based Instruction and Grammar translation method. After finishing the treatment, they do written and oral post-tests.
