This study was conducted in two cycles consisting of six meetings and nine meetings. The subjects of this study were second semester students of English Education Department UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The instruments in collecting the data were observation checklist, field notes, self-assessment sheets, peer-assessment sheets, the students' speaking performance measured using scoring rubrics, video recordings and questionnaire. the criteria of success were determined on the basis of the students' participation in the teaching learning process, the students' speaking achievement in term of score (telling a story individually), and the students' responses to the implementation of story telling technique. The finding of the study indicated that the implementation of the technique was successful in improving the students' speaking ability, since the criteria of success were achieved
