The purpose of this research is to observe the strategies used by teachers when they are teaching reading of narrative text in English as a foreign language to eight grade junior high school students. This research attempts to address the following questions: (1) what strategies used by the English teachers in teaching reading of narrative text? (2) what are the obstacles faced by the English teachers in teaching reading of narrative text in a Junior high school? (3) what are the effects of the strategies used to the students' learning? The participants were purposively chosen from SMPN 142. The first teacher was trained teacher and the second teacher was untrained teacher
