This study is to investigate the effectiveness of using ' Quantum Writing' or 'Free writing approach' in students' writing composition academically at University of Pamulang Tangerang Selatan, Banten. The purpose of this study is: (1) to find out whether there is an effectiveness of using free writing and quantum writing, (2) to improve students' writing composition academically using the two techniques of free writing and quantum writing. the total population is 60 students of the third semester students at University of Pamulang and after selected by using proportional stratified random sampling, the total sample taken is 50 students (25 students are in experiment group and the rest of the students are in control group). Using SPSS 16 calculation, the result showed the Sig. (2-tailed) value lower than 0.05. It means that H0 saying that "there is no significant difference between writing skill improvement of students taught using free writing and those who taught using quantum writing" is rejected.
