This study is to investigate the effect of Photograph and Diary on students’ recount writing at the eighth grade students of SMPN 11 South Jakarta. The purpose of this study was: (1) to find out whether there is the effectiveness of
using photograph and diary, (2) to find out the students’ recount writing using two media of photograph and diary, (3) to find out the different effect of using
photograph and diary on students’ recount writing. The population of this research is 64 students in eighth grade of SMPN 11 South Jakarta. The total population is 192 students ( 32 students are in experiment group using photograph and 32 students are in control group using diary). After selected by using experimental design purposive sampling, the writer gave writing test to gather the data. There are two test; pre test and post test. The formula that
was used to analyze the data was t-test. It was used to determine whether there was a significance difference between students’ score in experimental group and students’ score in control group. Using SPSS 17 calculation, the result showed the sig. (2-tailed) value lower than 0.05. it means that H0 saying that “There is no significant difference between writing skill improvement of students taught using photograph and diary” is accepted.
