This research was conducted in two cycles, from 14th of January to the 22nd of April 2019. Each cycle consisted of three meetings. The steps of research were planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subject of the research were 28 students of IX class which consisted of 8 females and 16 males and the English teacher. The data were qualitative form. The qualitative data were collected through observation and interviews. Meanwhile, the field notes and interview transcript were analyzed qualitatively through five steps assembling the data, coding the data, comparing the data, buliding the meaning and interpretations, and reporting the outcomes
The result of the research indicated that the used of ficture series effectively improved the students’ ability in writing narative texts. The strategy made a quite much improvement of the students writing in the aspects of content, organization, language use, vocabulary, and machanic. From reference to the students’ writing score, the gain score of content aspect was 22.81, organization aspect was 13.34, language us aspect was 14.87, vocabulary aspect was 14.17, and mechanic aspect was 3.78, that writing score is 68.97. In addition, using of picture series also improved the teaching and learning process of writing such as classroom interaction and the student were enthusiastic and active when they were asked to write.
