The objectives of this study were to find out the teachers‟ strategies and the
challenges faced by the teachers in giving feedback during online ELT at senior
high schools in Jakarta. The researcher applied qualitative research design in
collecting and analysing the data. To collect the data, the researcher distributed questionnaires to ten English teachers in Jakarta who had experience in teaching English online minimum in five meetings in a semester and they were then interviewed. The result of the data analysis showed that the English teachers at Jakarta senior high schools provided written feedback in online learning. The teachers' strategies in providing online written feedback included addressing the students by name, providing frequent feedback, providing immediate feedback, providing balanced feedback, providing specific feedback, using a positive tone, and asking questions to foster critical thinking. Furthermore, the teacher faced difficulties in providing written online feedback such as limited internet connection, students' lack of attention, and a lack of interactive tools.
