The research was action research. The researcher was an English teacher in this research. The data were obtained through tests, observation, and interviews with the students and the English teacher. The data were in the actions of assessment pictures, video scenes, and interview transcripts. To support qualitative data, quantitative data were obtained from authentic viewing visual material evaluation tests in cycle 1 to cycle 3 score, pretest, and post-test scores. The action research implemented here was conducting reading comprehension of descriptive text through authentic viewing and visual material. The research was conducted in three cycles. Every cycle consisted of steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The Objective of Research 1. To know the improvement of the student’s reading comprehension of descriptive text through authentic viewing of visual material at SMPN 66 Jakarta. 2. To know the effect of using authentic visual media in the presentation in reading comprehension descriptive text. The results of classroom action research indicate that the application of this authentic viewing visual material proves: (1) That authentic viewing visual material has a positive impact in improving learning outcomes with students' learning mastery improvement. (2) The application of contextual learning through authentic viewing of visual material can improve student learning motivation. And, (3) that contextual learning of through authentic viewing of visual material has a positive impact on students’ memory of how to improve their reading skills and help them to improve by using skills you use in their own language.
