This study is to observe the teacher’s strategies on teaching speaking competence in conversation class at the second grade of vocational school cengkareng one. The purpose of this study is: (1) to observe teachers’ teaching strategies used in conversation class, (2) to investigate students’ speaking ability in conversation class, (3) to discover the appropriate strategies effectively used by the teachers in conversation class. The total population is 25 students of the second grade at vocational school Cengkareng Jakarta with 4 departments: marketing, accounting, administration, and broadcasting class. There are four teachers investigated by the researcher and observes into four meetings, and the four teachers have different strategies when they taught their student. The technique used to get the data is qualitative purpose which taken from the observation, interview, and questioner. The observation result has shown that the weaknesses of the teachers when they applied their strategies are lack of some elements of speaking and the oral production is not productive well, so the speaking is not successful. It can be seen from the feedback they gave in class trough the topic teachers taught.
