This research aimed to dig deeper into the implementation of scientific-based learning in teaching argumentative essays at one of the private universities in Tangerang. Furthermore, it was particularly intended to answer three research questions: 1) What are the procedures used by the lecturer in applying Scientific based learning in teaching argumentative essays? 2) What are the difficulties faced by the lecturer in applying Scientific-based learning in teaching argumentative essays? 3) What are students’ perception of this implementation?. The researcher used qualitative approach to perform this research. This research has been conducted in the English Department Faculty of the Teacher Training University of Muhammadiyah Tangerang which the scientific approach is implemented. The participants of this research were two lectures and ten students in the fourth semester of English Department. In the data collection process, researcher used observation, interview, and documentation, the data were analyzed used qualitative approach to explore teachers’ understanding of scientific in order to find information about the implementation of scientific-based learning in teaching argumentative essays. The result of the analysis concluded both lecturers have a good basic understanding of scientific-based learning in teaching argumentative essays. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that Scientific-based learning in teaching argumentative essays that integrating student’s attitudes, skills, and knowledge by implementing observing, questioning, experimenting, associating and communicating on the teaching-learning process.
