This thesis aims to find out the problems encountered by the students in reading comprehension and the student’s response using discovery learning strategy in reading comprehension. The study involved six students at SMKN 6 South Tangerang. This study applied descriptive qualitative method since the researcher collected the data by doing observation, questionnaire, and took some documents such as the students’ work sheet. The theory used by the researcher in analyzing the discovery learning strategy is based on the theory proposed by Mayer (2004, p. 14-19) that, "discovery learning allows the students to learn by discovering thing themselves with their own experience rather than telling them thing”. It therefore encourages the students to be more active in learning through solving the problems designed by the teacher in order to reach their comprehending in a text. Moreover, in terms of difficulties, the students find that the main problems or difficulties are vocabulary and pronunciation. In terms of the students’ response using discovery learning strategy, it was also found that the students hope the teaching-learning process in the reading class can be more attractive, interesting, and it is supported by the appropriate teaching materials.
