Two primary data of this research are taken from all chapters of the textbooks When English Rings the Bell and think globally act locally in order to answer the first research questions and the interview in knowing teachers’ perceptions about LOTS and HOTS in the textbooks to answer the second research question. The results of the study revealed that the books "When English Rings the Bells" for 7th and 8th grade and "Think Globally Act Locally" in the 9th grade mostly contained LOTS elements. This is evidenced by the results of the analysis which show the data that most levels of thinking in these books are in the LOTS level. However, for the 9th grade book itself there are some HOTS elements. In Addition, the teachers considered the application of LOTS and HOTS is very necessary in learning English because it can help teachers and students in their critical thinking ability. Furthermore, the biggest challenges faced when applying LOTS and HOTS are on students. Therefore, teachers must adapt and be creative in making learning materials. Thus, these materials can be in accordance with the learning objectives and abilities of the students.
