This study aims to determine what elements of critical thinking are found in English question items are midterm test and final test given by teachers to students and to find out what elements of critical thinking are still lacking in English question items which was given by SMA in kota Jakarta. Researcher focus on the elements of critical thinking and assessment formed in English items by the teacher. Critical thinking is the ability to solve problems, make decisions, create ideas, express opinions and so on. The research method used is qualitative with the data processing technique by content analysis. The content analysis in question is content analysis which contains critical thinking elements in the English language questions. The subjects studied were English items consisting of 471 items. Participants consisted of seven English teachers in Kota Jakarta. The research instrument used collecting the material, piloting the category, and coding and finding theme the data. Qualitative content analysis was used to analyze the data content of the items. The results of the study, there were several elements of critical thinking in the assessment used by the teacher, namely; analyze, make, draw conclusions, form opinions, and remember what is contained in some of the questions obtained. However, there are some elements of critical thinking that are not found or are not included in the analytical category in the teacher's assessment of students, through questions or in the form of given English questions, including applying, evaluating, evaluating, making comparisons, making connections, making connections, making generalization, problem solving, questioning, and remembering. Therefore, to create a way or process of enhancing students 'critical thinking and enriching the teacher's strategy in applying the students' level of critical thinking, especially in assessment, it must be able to contain other elements of critical thinking. So, it can strengthen students' improvement in critical thinking that is contained in the English teacher's assessment.
