The aim of the research is to find out the effect of e-mail and visual aids on the students’ report text writing ability. The research was conducted by using the quasi-experimental research design. Two groups were employed in this research – an experimental and control group. This is to see which group is better in writing report text. The first group asked to write report text by using e-mail and the second group was was given pictures as visual aids. The subject of the research is students of the 9th grade SMPN 17 Bogor. Both groups were instructed to write a report text. The data was analyzed by using
the Independent t-test. The research finding shows that there is siginificant different between students who were asked to write a report text by using e-mail and the students who were given pictures as visual aids. The students who were asked to write a report text by using e-mail had better score than those who were given pistures as visual aids. It meas that using e-mail is better than pictures in improving students’ report text writing ability.
Teachers are expected to use e-mail as one of media used in teaching writing
report text because of the advantages. Moreover, nowadays e-mail is not something new for both teachers and students.
