The objectives of this research are to seek: (1) Teachers’ perceptions about
formative assessment, (2) Teachers’ formative assessment practice in the
classroom. This research applied qualitative method with a case study design.
After that, this research was conducted in two elementary schools in Tangerang in academic year 2017/2018. The writer took 6 teachers as the participants of this research, and he used purposive sampling to choose the samples. Then, there were three instruments used to get the data such as questionnaires, semi-structured interview, and document study. Next, the data analysed within three techniques of data analysis. Those techniques were reducing the data, displaying the data, and drawing conclusion or verification. The findings revealed that most of the teachers had sufficient knowledge regarding formative assessment. However, they less practiced to do formative assessment in the classroom such as validity, blueprint, rubric, feedback, etc. Thus, there were some recommendations provided for the teachers. The teachers should improve their knowledge by joining seminar, and training, so that they would be able to implement the theory into practice appropriately. Furthermore, they should manage time well in conducting formative assessment.
