This research was conducted to investigate how anchoring and puns improve
students’ understanding in learning tenses. The research design used classroom action research. The participants of this research were conversation class’ students from an English Course in Tebet, South Jakarta named MANTIKA English. The finding of the study showed that anchoring and puns can improve students in learning tenses. Twelve tenses with its time differences ranging from past tenses, present tenses and future tenses can be learned within a short time using anchoring and puns strategy. The strategy showed significant improvements even in some ways, improvements needed to make the strategy able to be used for other purposes such as speaking skills.
