This study was conducted to investigate the implementation of „Writing-To-Learn‟ strategy to improve the students‟ writing skill in SMA Muhammadiyah 4 Tangerang. The purpose of this study is: (1) to discover the improvement in implementing WTL strategy in the students‟ writing, (2) to know what the teacher difficulty when applying the strategy, (3) to find out the students and teacher perceptions about WTL strategy in writing. The total population is 20 and 26 students from two class of the tenth and eleventh grades students in SMA Muhammadiyah 4 Tangerang and all students was taken to do the test and interview. The researcher also took the interview to the teacher, the researcher took teacher who teaches grade 10 until grade 12. The researcher used qualitative research method. It is used for gaining the data more in-depth and details.
The result of this study shows that, in implementing WTL strategy in writing, first, the students who at the beginning do not pay much attention, slowly making some progresses when this strategy gave to them and it also made the students more easier gather a new knowledge and become more autonomous learner than before. Second, the difficulty that faced by teacher was adapting a new strategy or method in the class because the students in SMA Muhammadiyah 4 Tangerang are still low, but the WTL strategy is accepted by the teacher because this strategy tended to make the students‟ to practice more even the strategy was new. Third, from students‟ perceptions, this strategy was very useful to them because it has some significant progressed when this strategy was applying to them and it also made the students feel more easier to the task that was given to them; from the teacher perceptions, this strategy made his students became more eager and better in learning and understanding the material in the class.
