The objective of the research is to find out and to examine the effect of
clustering and scaffolding techniques and students‘ learning styles on the
students‘ writing skill of recount text at SMPN 2 Tangerang in academic year
2017/2018. This research uses quasi experimental design research with 2X2 factorial. The population of the research is all students of eighth grade of SMPN 2
Tangerang as many as 288 students. The sample of the research is 40 students
which is taken by using cluster sampling technique. The 40 students are divided in
to two classes. The first class is experiment class that consists of 10 visual
learners and 10 kinesthetic learners that treated by using clustering technique.
Furthermore, the second class is comparison class that also consists of 10 visual
learners and 10 kinesthetic learner that treated by using scaffolding technique.
Data of the research is collected by using two instruments such as writing
recount text test and questionnaire. Writing recount text test is used measure
students‘ skill of writing recount text. Questionnaire is used to classified students
with visual learning style and students with kinesthetic learning style. The data
obtained is analyzed by using Two Way Anova. The research finding show that there are a significant difference effect
between two techniques both clustering and scaffolding techniques on the
students‘ writing skill of recount text in which p-value = 0.036 is less than α=0.05,
there are significant difference between visual and kinesthetic learners on the
students‘ writing skill of recount text in which p-value=0.021 is less than α=0.05,
and there is significant interaction between teaching techniques (clustering and
scaffolding) and students‘ learning style (visual and kinesthetic) on the students‘
writing skill of recount text in which p-value=0.000 is less than α=0.05.
