This thesis aims to investigate the teacher’s strategies in teaching speaking to elementary students and how the students’ respond to the use of those strategies. This research employed a qualitative approach. The method of the research is case study. The researcher collected all the data by observing the teaching process, making the field notes, interviewing the teacher and students, and distributing the questionnaire to the students. There were three groups of data collected in this research; group of data from observations and field notes, interview, and questionnaire. To address the first and second research question which stated in Chapter 1, the video were trancribed, categorized, classified, presented and interpreted from the classroom observation. The researcher also did the same thing for the interview recording. To address the third research question, the researcher did the observation and field notes, distributed the questionnaire, and interviewed the students. From the observation of the teaching speaking process in the classroom and interview, the researcher got some information that the teacher used 6 strategies: audiolingual method (drills and dialogues), communicative language teaching (role play), games, teaching pronunciation, error correction, and speaking in front of the class. Besides, the teacher also prepared the steps and media for the teaching speaking to the students. From the observation, interview, and questionnaire, the students responded positively to the use of teaching speaking strategies that were used by the teacher in the classroom.
