The method used in his study was a naturalistic research which was conducted through the classroom observation, interview, and test. In the Observation classroom activities, the researcher observed the events taking place during the process of teaching and learning activities from the begining until the end. The events observed were dealing with the purposes of learning that would be reached, the method applied, the assessment or test system, the application of praise and feedback as washback strategies, and the students’ participation. The researcher in collecting the information or data also uses the interview to the teachers and students. Whereas the formative test was used not only to measure the students’ ability in understanding the lesson, but also to apply washback strategies. The study was conducted at the MTs Negeri serang, Bekasi Regency. The results of the study could be concluded, namely (1) the washback strategies could be conducted through two ways that is washback strategies with praise and feedback, (2) the praise was given to the students who undertook the test successfully, (3) the feedback was given to the studensts who carried out the test poorly, (4) the washback strategies had positive effects in improving the students’ acheivement, motivation, and behaviour, (5) the washback strategies could help the teacher overcome her difficulties in teaching. The application of washback strategies was a suitable alternative way that could be investigated, tried, and used by the teachers to solve their problems in teaching, particularly teaching writing skill.
