This Classroom Action Research aims at investigating the application of
Facebook to enhance the students’ writing skill especially writing
descriptive text for eleventh grade students of science 5 at second semester in
the academic year 2013/2014. In this research, the facebook group was created by the teacher and all students joined to be members. The space in the facebook group was use as place for the students to post their writing tasks on their “status” instead of writing the tasks in their nate or exercise book. The writing tasks were
assigned as homework so that the students wrote and posted the tasks
outside classroom. The posted tasks were then read to see the mistakes or
errors found on the tasks such as the organization of idea, usage of
vocabulary, grammar, and mechanic. In the classroom the teacher and the
students discussed the mistakes or errors found in their tasks. The students
were then given chance to revise the previous tasks. The chance to revise
and post the tasks were assigned as homework. The research findings showed that the application of facebook could enhance the students writing tasks and it was found more comfortable, more pleasing, and more satisfying than writing activity conducted in the classroom since the students felt freer to express their ideas, could write as well as post the writing tasks anytime and anywhere and their writing tasks
could be read by the members.
