This research was conducted to find out the students’ perception and expectation of teacher roles and rapport in teaching writing at University of Muhammadiyah Sorong. This research used is mixed-method approach and convergent parallel design. The researcher used questionnaires and interview as the instruments of this research. Twelve students participated as participants in this research. This research revealed that the students had a negative perception of their teacher roles: as a motivator, resource, and feedback provider in teaching writing. The students still need a teacher to be a motivator, resource, feedback provider, empowerer, monitor of their learning, and role model for various kinds of reason related to their development in learning. The research also revealed that the students had a positive perception of rapport (teacher-students relations). The students thought that their teacher respected them and also friendly. This kind of rapport was expected by the students. In conclusion, the perception of the students could be an evaluation for the teachers to improve their teaching technique. It is important to realize that the institution can use the students’ perception to know teachers’ quality or professionalism.
