This study focuses on the teaching techniques used by the English teacher in
teaching vocabulary to the first grades students. This research is conducted at SD
Citra Bangsa School Pringsewu Lampung. Consequently, the purpose of the study
were: (1) To find out the techniques employed by the teacher in presenting the
teaching of vocabulary to the learners. (2) To find out techniques employed
implemented to beteach vocabulary to students. (3) To find out the students’
responses in employing those techniques. In this study, the descriptive design is
used to obtain the data concerning the research problems. This study focuses on
the first grade students and the teacher as subject. There are three instruments
used in taking data: interview, observation, and documentation. Furthermore, the
researcher set up the observational notes, used tape recorder to record the
interview with the teacher, and documentation covers syllabus and lessons
plan.The research findings showed that the techniques used by the teacher in
teaching English vocabulary are Repetition drill, vocabulary networks, guess the
word, guess the picture, and sing a song. It is relevant to procedure of techniques
in teaching English vocabulary. Most of the students of first grade give positive
responses, they were very enthusiastic and motivated by the techniques used by
the teacher.
