This thesis aims to explore the patterns of the classroom interactions which are built by teachers in the classroom. Moreover, it is intended to investigate the strategies which are applied by teachers in the classroom. This study which was qualitative case study using conversation analysis method took the data from four classrooms of primary students at SDS Jakarta Islamic School by recording the classroom interaction between teacher and students, doing observation and interviewing teachers. In doing conversation analysis the researcher applied the systematic phases which was begun from the recording the classroom interaction, transcribing the records into the transcripts, analyzing the data and concluding the findings. Based on this study, the researcher has found three patterns of the classroom interaction. The first is turn taking pattern describing the distribution of the turn of the talk. The second is the sequence organization of the turn describing the order of how the turn of the talk is built. The third is the repair pattern describing the way of how the student’s mistakes or errors are repaired. Furthermore, the researcher has found eleven strategies applied by teacher in building the classroom interaction. These strategies are applied based on the situation and condition of the classroom.
