The study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of Group Work in reading comprehension, think-pair- share (TPS) and talking chips (TC). Another aim is to find out which one is better in the reading class whether TPS class and TC class through group work. The research was carried out in the comparative study, and it involved one experiment class and one comparison class at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Jakarta at the first semester. Two classes have participated in this study and have received a kind of group work as the treatment for both of classes. The classes were held eleven meeting and the data were collected through the scores from pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by implementing the T-test with the SPSS software, in order to compare the scores of both groups. The findings of the study indicated that a type of learners have same ability through group work, as the results, the data analysis showed that there are not statistically significant differences in the kind of group work. It is concluded that the kind of group work is beneficial to be applied at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Jakarta. Learning that is used should be referred to the experience rather than memorization. Every student has a different type of learning, which cannot be imposed by a teacher. Teachers should have an ambition on how to provide meaningful experiences in their learning activities which is more beneficial than to impose a certain value.
