Coconut coir peeler is a system that functions to peel coconut coir until it is separated from the
shell. The process of peeling coconut coir is still using the manual method, namely by using a
wedge. However, it takes quite a long time. For this reason, this research created a mechanical
device for peeling coconut coir with a spring system which aims to help and make it easier to peel
coconut coir for workers/coconut peelers. The design method used is the Verein Deutshe
Ingenieuer (VDI) 2221 approach, which is carried out in designing the tool concept, design
drawings and tool design. Then, it is followed by a performance testing method to measure the
performance of the tool that has been made. After that, it is followed by the Cardiovascular Load
(CVL) method to measure the level of worker fatigue and assess the level of convenience and
satisfaction of consumers. The fatigue level of workers/coconut peelers is lower using a draft tool
than using a wedge. Cardiovascular Load (CVL) uses an average wedge of 17.84%, while CVL
uses a design tool an average of 15.68%, using a wedge the time needed to peel one coconut with
an average weight of 1.7 kg requires an average time -an average of 2.20 minutes, while using a
coconut coir peeler with a spring system takes an average of 1.11 minutes per fruit.
