This research deals with the descriptions and analyses on phonemes of English and
Indonesian language which supplies several similarities and difference. Similarities do
not make the ninth grade students on M.Ts Al Bahri Junior High School have little
trouble in learning L2 (English), but the differences between two languages do.
Therefore, based on the collected data, some differences are founded such as
phonemic opposition and phonetic features, and so their similarities. The approach
applied in this study was qualitative. The data were collected via observation,
interviews, and record reading test of sentences which were constructed in the form of
field-notes. This study involved 22 students. They have had experience in learning
English but they still have problems in pronouncing English words. The writer wants
to know the result of the reading test in phonemes that are none exists in Indonesia.
For the result of the competence of the reading with good pronunciation, the writer
takes guide on Anas Sudjiono to know the ability the students’ result.
