Jakarta: The Department of English Language Teaching Programmed, the School of Teacher Training and Education, the Universitas of Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr.Hamka. 2013 This study was aimed to observe the use of story mapping in teaching narrative text, and to find out the obstacles, advantages and disadvantages of using story mapping in learning about narrative text. This study was conducted by using a True-experimental design with pretest and posttest. Two classes of the first grader in SMA Darul ma‟arif south Jakarta were chosen as the sample in this study. There were 24 students in experiment class and 28 students in control class. Based on the result of experiment teaching reading of narrative text through story mapping it was found the data analysis goes t-observed 2,47 it is higher than t-table (to>tt = 2,47 >2,00) it can be concluded that H0 rejected and H1 is accepted. So, the concluded is teaching reading of narrative text through story mapping is effective. There were two main conclusions that can be drawn from the present study. First, story mapping could improve student‟ reading comprehension on narrative text. Second, story mapping was appropriate for the students in senior high school level. Since story mapping was very appropriate to apply for students who had a good reading skill. For teachers who are interested in using story mapping, it is suggested to ensure that the students‟ do not have problems with reading. In addition for further study, it would be very excellent if the story mapping can be used in other genres.
