The purpose of this research is to get the empirical evidence of the
effectiveness of jigsaw technique in teaching reading comprehension to the eighth
grade student of SMP Bhakti Pemuda Indonesia Bekasi.
The population of the research is the eighth of SMP Bhakti Pemuda
Indonesia Bekasi. There are four classes; VIII-A,VIII-B,VIII-C and VIII-D with
the total number of population is 159 students. The writer decided to take 39
students for the experimental class and 40 students for the control class out of the
population for the sample of the research. They were taken from the VIII-A and
VIII-B by using purposive cluster sampling technique.
This research findings show that using jigsaw technique in the teaching
reading comprehension to the experiment class gets the average score (X) of
63.05. While in the control class, that is using conventional technique gets the
average score (X) of 57.45. To know the effectiveness of using jigsaw technique
in teaching students‟ reading comprehension, The writer uses the hypotheses test
of t-Test. From the compulation result, tobserved = 5.23 and ttable = 1.68 with 0.05
significance level. Because to>tt, it means jigsaw technique is effective in teaching
reading comprehension to the eighth years students of SMP Bhakti Pemuda
Indonesia Bekasi in 2013/2014 Academic Year.
