The objective of this research is to find whether the English summative test for the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Tangerang in the first semester of the 2014/2015 academic year has the quality of a good test in term of difficulty level, discriminating power, and the effectiveness of option or not. The English summative test was administered on 11th December 2014.
The respondents of this study were the seventh grade students. The writer only took 30% (96 respondents) of the seventh grade students as a sample of respondents from three classes (7A, 7B, 7C). Then, the writer ranked the students from the highest to the lowest score, and took 27% from the highest score as the upper group and 27% from the lowest score as the lower group. Each group consisted of 26 respondents.
From the result of the item analysis in term of discriminating power, the writer has got the data that there have been 8 test items or 20% that did not have good quality; they were 2 items (5%) categorized as very poor items that need to be rejected, and 6 items (15%) categorized as poor items that need revision. However, the quality of 32 items or 80 % (satisfactory (12 items), good (19 items), and excellent (1 item)) are good because the test items can be accepted.
The writer concludes that the English summative test for the seventh grade students of SMPN 8 Tangerang in the first semester of the 2014/2015 academic year in general has good quality.
