The objective of this research was to get empirical evidence of whether or not the English summative test of the tenth grade students of SMAN 97 Jakarta in the second semester of the 2014/2015 academic year have good qualities which covers the aspect of difficulty level, discriminating power and the effectiveness of distractor. The English summative test was held on June, 12 2015. The population of this research was the tenth grade students’ answer sheets consists of 345 which divided into 9 classes but the writer took 70 answer sheets from 2 classes as the sample. For this research the writer chose 25% answer sheet which get the highest score and 25% answer sheet which get the lowest score. Then the writer calculates the difficulty level and dicriminating power using formula from J.B Heaton and the effectiveness of distracter using formula from Arikunto
The result of this research showed that there are 17 items or (34%) which categorized as easy item, 24 items or (48%) which categorized as medium item and 9 items or (18%) which categorized as difficult item. Seen from the discriminating power shows that there are 5 items or (10%) discarded, 12 items or (24%) revised and 33 items or (66%) maintained and seen from the effectiveness of distractor shows that: there are 113 or (57%) effective distracters and there are 87 or (43%) ineffective distracter.
Based on the empirical evidence above the writer concluded that the English summative test which was administered in SMAN 97 Jakarta can be said as a good test, because 66% of items are accepted or maintained, 24% are revised and 10% are rejected.
