The aim of the research is to find out whether the use of Think pair and
share method is effective towards speaking skill to the eighth grade students of
SMP Negeri 264 Jakarta, in the first semester in 2014-2015 Academic Year.
The writer employed an experimental method in this research. This paper is
using pre-experimental method. The population of this research is the eighth
grade students of SMP Negeri 264 Jakarta. The sample were taken from one
class of the eighth grade. The writer took 30 students as a subject samples.
The data that writer got from the research were using the t-test formula.
The finding of the research shows that Think pair and share method in
teaching speaking gives the effectiveness in students‟ speaking skill. The
result is t table = 1.70 and t observed = 5.52. Because t-observed > t table, it means
there is Think pair and share technique is effective in teaching speaking.
The findings of this research are expected to be useful for the students to
help them in improving their speaking skill and inspiring for the teacher and
all the people especially who concerned in English education. Moreover, this
research gives any valuable information for teacher about the model of Think
pair and share method and how to apply it in the speaking teaching activity in
order to create a better and more effective teaching and learning process.
