The objective of this study is to find out the most typical errors and sources of error on students’ descriptive writing of the tenth grade of SMAN 3 Rangkasbitung. This study was conducted in the SMAN 3 Rangkasbitung, the 1st semester of the school year 2014-2015. The population of the research was 30 students from one class of the tenth grade of SMAN 3 Rangkasbitung and the sample were taken 3.0 students. The writer uses a descriptive qualitative approach and error analysis based on the aspect. The total of this error type will be transferred to percentage. In the table of percentage, the writer uses this formula x 100%. Based on the calculation results the most types of errors which the students made were verb tense (21.3 %), omit a word (19.9 %), spelling (18.0 %), add a word (11.4 %), capitalization (9.0 %), word choice (8.1 %), word order (3.8 %), singular – plural (2.4 %), word form (1.0 %), article (1.0 %), and the less error that students never made in their writing are incomplete sentence, meaning not clear and run on sentence. For the sources of error, the first rank is intralingual transfer (67.6 %). The second rank is context of learning (32.3 %). The last is interlingual transfer and communication strategies (0 %).
