RAFIQA. NIM: 1001065179. The Relationship between Simple Past Tense Mastery and Narrative Writing Skill on the Tenth Grade Students of SMKN 31 Jakarta in the 2014-2015 Academic Year. A Paper: The Study Program of English Education the School of Teacher Training and Education The University of Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka 2015. The objective of this research is to find out the relationship between simple past tense mastery and narrative writing skill on the tenth grade students of SMKN 31 Jakarta in the 2014-2015 academic year. The writer took one class which consists of 30 students as the sample of the research. The writer took the data and did the research by giving a test. The instruments of this research used are simple past tense test and narrative writing test. In analyzing the data, the writer used a Pearson‟s Product Moment analysis in order to get the correlation between both variables. The result of the research shows that students‟ mastery in simple past tense got the average score 76.67 and the average score of narrative writing 81.13. The result of homogeneity test is Fo0.349), and t-observed is higher than t-table (2.17>1.70). It means that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (Hi) is accepted. The regression analysis shows ̂ Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between the score of simple past tense mastery and the score of narrative writing skill on the tenth grade students of SMKN 31 Jakarta in the 2014-2015 academic year.
