The purpose of the research is to get the empirical evidence of whether or
not the English summative test for the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 32
Jakarta has good criteria on the aspect of facility value and discriminating power.
The facility value was used to find if the English summative test is easy, medium,
or difficult. The discriminating power was used to find if the English summative
test is good or poor.
The method that is used in this research is analytic descriptive method.
The writer used the English summative test papers and the students’ answer sheets
for collecting the data. The collected data are put in a spreadsheet called
tabulation form. From the tabulation, the proportion of the correct responses from
the upper and lower group can be calculated. Then, the proportion of the facility
value and discriminating power are calculated by using the formula of Purwanto.
The analysis of item weaknesses and the revision can be done qualitatively.
Based on the data analysis of this research, the writer can generally
concluded that the English summative test for the eleventh grade students of SMA
Negeri 32 Jakarta has a good quality, because the test items indicates that 23 items
of 45 multiple choices are kept (DP = 0.21-1.00), 14 items should be revised (DP
= 0.00-0.20), and 8 items are discarded (DP = <0).
