Teaching Vocabulary at the third grade students on 03 Cipinang Besar Utara
Elementary School in 2014 2014/2015 Academic Year. The Study Programme of

The aim of this study is to find out the effectiveness of using picture in
teaching vocabulary on the third grade students in the 2014/2015 academic year.
The study was held at 03 Elementary School that is located on Bekasi Timur IV
street no. 1 Cipinang Besar Utara East Jakarta. The experiment class consists of
30 students and the control class consists of 32 students. This study is quantitative
research by using experiment method, the data that the writer got were analyzed
by using t- test formula.
The writer employed two different teaching techniques into different
classes. For the experiment class the writer used pictures as a teaching technique
and in a control class the writer used conventional technique. The writer did pretest
to get the basic knowledge from each students in vocabulary knowledge, the
tests are multiple choice and essay items on the first meeting of control and
experiment class. The result of statistic calculation the table of t-ratio in 0.05
significance level and with the df between 60 to 120 is 1.67. The df in this
experiment is n1 + n2 – 2 = 30 + 32 – 2 = 60, so that the writer uses t-ratio (ttable).
While the data analysis gives tobserved 3.97. It is higher than ttable (to>tt =
3.97> 1.67).
Based on the finding of the study, it can be concluded that teaching
vocabulary by using picture is successful and can run well in the experiment class
situation. By using picture the students feel more interested and enjoy doing
activities in the class. This research is expected to make teachers and schools
support in using media in teaching learning process.
