The objective of the research isto get the empirical evidence of
whether or not the English Summative test items for the eleventh grade students
of SMAN 105 Jakarta have good quality in terms of facility value and
discriminating power. The test was administered in December, 2014.
The method that are used in this research are both quantitative and
qualitative analysis. The quantitative method to find out the difficulty level and
discriminating power of the test item.The qualitative method is used to find the
causes of the weak items.
The population respondents of the research were the students of the
eleventh grade of SMAN 105 Jakarta who distributed into two classes. There
were totally 72 students as the population of respondents. From this population,
the writer took out 25% (18 students) who got the highest scores for the upper
group, and 25% who got the lowest scores for the lower group.
From the facility value, the discriminating power, and the effectiveness of
distracters, the writer got a conclusion that the facility value of English
summative test has medium quality, because the test got 23 items which are
medium (58%), 1 item which is difficult (2%), and 16 items which are easy
(40%). Seeing the discriminating power, there have been 1 item (2%) which is
discarded, 6 items which are revised (15%), and 33 items which are accepted
(83%). It means the test is good.
