This study aims to find out the significant relationship between the eighth grade students‟ simple past tense mastery and reading comprehension of recount text. This study was conducted in SMP N 102 Jakarta in the first semester of the 2015-2016 academic year. The study population were 30 students who were fully examined. The sampling technique used was saturated with a purposive sampling technique. This study used quantitative with a correlational technique. Both of the instruments used an objective test, which was multiple choice. After the data were normally distributed and linear based on the tests for pre-requisite, it can be continued to do pearson‟s product moment and significant analysis. Based on the calculation results, the writer obtained a linear regression which is Y = 10.13 + 0.87 X. Hypothesis testing was done by calculating the product moment correlation and obtained r observed = 0.88 > 0.36 = r table which means that Ho is rejected or Hi is accepted. In addition, the writer found out tobserved>ttable= 9.89> 1.70, which means Ho is rejected or Hi is accepted. Therefore, the result of this study concludes that there is a significant relationship between the eighth grade students‟ simple past tense mastery and reading comprehension of recount text. It means, if the students who had a good in simple past tense mastery so the students also were being good in reading comprehension of recount text.
