MAULIA NURUL HAPSAH. The Relationship Between Vocabulary Mastery And Reading Comprehension at Eight Grade Students of SMPN 50 Jakarta Timur In 2013/2014 Academic Year. A paper, Jakarta: The Study Programme of English Language Teaching the School of Teacher Training and Education,The University Muhammadiyah Prof Dr Hamka, 2014. The goal of this is research is to find the objective condition from the relationship between students‟ vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension which was observed and analyzed from eight grade students of SMPN 50 Jakarta Timur. Moreover, the purpose of this study is also to get the informationan the empirical data about the impact of students‟ vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension. The population of the research are 144 students and 36 students were being the sample of the research. All are from the eight grade of SMPN 50 Jakarta Timur. This research was using experiment method in quantitative by collecting data using test instrument and did the research with observation. All the data gained in this reserach was analyzed by using the formulation Pearson product momment correlation coefficient. According to the result of the analysis and statistical calculation, it is found that students‟ vocabulary mastery got avarage score 74,2 and the students‟ reading comprehension got average score is 70,3. The result of correlation analysis showed that there is a significant relationship between eight grade students‟ vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of SMPN 50 Jakarta Timur with ro= 0,58 and rt= 0,32. It means that ro > rt = 0,58 > 0,32. So, Ho is rejected and Hi is accepted . It means that there is relationship. The result of significant correlation is to is 4,17 and tt is 1,70. It means that to > tt (4,17 > 1,70). So, Ho is rejected and Hi is accepted. So, there is a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension at eight grade students of SMPN 50 Jakarta Timur. Based on this finding from this study, it can be concluded that having more vocabulary or vocabulary mastery significantly affects the comprehension of the students‟ of reading activity. Moreover, by having many vocabulary the students‟ can easily get information and fun story writen in english which finally in can enrich their knowledge by reading a lot of books.
